    • LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – With Louisville taking on Lexington on Saturday, excitement is expected to run rampant in both cities.

    Along with that excitement come crowds that can, at times, become unruly.

    Those scenes were found around Louisville last Saturday and in Lexington on Sunday when some people burned couches to celebrate the Cats' win.

    In 1996 when UK won the men's national basketball championship, nearly four dozen people were arrested as fans packed Lexington streets and even burned a news crew's van.

    Stan Frager explained why people often get so out of hand.

    "Everybody has all this exuberance they want to share. We kind of lose some of our rationale thinking," Dr. Frager said.

    Those celebrations often include alcohol.

    It's a recipe that can lead to trouble.

    "They want a public demonstration of, 'I'm really behind our team, and how can I show it,' and unfortunately, sometimes it's by mischief," Dr. Frager said.
